The Best Brunch in Bernal

Brunch is a coveted weekend tradition that my partner and I do our best to protect. But standing in line for 45 minutes is not.

That’s one of the many reasons we think B-Star is the best brunch spot in Bernal. We rarely have to wait, and when we do, it’s usually only for a few minutes.

But it’s the food that keeps us coming back most weekends. My partner’s favorite dish hands-down is the Fried Chicken Sandwich. He makes it more “brunchy” by adding a fried egg on top. With or without the egg, it is a damn good sandwich. And B-Star really knows how to make fries – crispy, hot, perfectly cooked, with a truffle aioli.

I’m usually torn between a few dishes. The pork enchiladas with mole sauce – Holy Moley are they good! The mole sauce is rich and creamy, without being sweet. The pulled pork is perfectly seasoned, and the whole dish is topped with homemade salsa, guacamole and comes with a side of black beans.

My other fav is the fish tacos. Two tacos stuffed with lightly battered and fried fish strips and fresh cole-slaw in a light mayo sauce. If these tacos were a website they’d be friggengood.com.

We usually sit inside at the front of the restaurant where we know all the servers by name, but there is a whole dog-friendly back patio if you can find it thru the tiny little side entrance. They will often show movies at night, but brunch is a less fussy affair.

B-Star is a Bernal tradition and one of the many, many things we love about our neighborhood.
